In
1998, I was graduated cum laude from Mount Holyoke College with high
honors for my thesis, "The Process of Design: The Realized and Theoretical
Scenic Designs for Shays' Rebellion." At Mount Holyoke I majored in
theatre arts with a focus on design and I minored in studio art with
an emphasis in oil painting. After I graduated I gradually came to
the realization that I wanted to teach visual art. My prior experience
as a scenic painting intern at the Juillard School may have been an
influencing factor as well as my experience as an intern teacher with
the Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford, NY. My primary responsibility
there was to be the assistant teacher in a classroom of 15 four and
five year olds. Our curriculum focused on themetic units that we taught
mostly through manipulatives, stories and art projects. In addition
to my classroom responsibilities, I developed and taught an after
school class in collage. As an art teacher, I feel I may combine my
love for art and working with children. Currently, I am pursuing my
master's degree in Art Education at Tufts University in affiliation
with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. My studies provide me
with enrichment as both an artist and a teacher. My work as an artist
has been primarily focused on landscape drawings and painting, both
realistic depiction as well as abstract interpretations. Trees and
tree like images can be found throughout my work in drawings, paintings,
monoprints and sculpture. |
