His research focuses on the intersection among modern and contemporary art, intellectual history, media theory, and anthropology. His current work includes a book project on the "casual" in California Conceptualism, which addresses the way artists take up stances to their work and the fate of sprezzatura after the mediums. He is also at work on a study of the co-emergence of semiotics and design in northern Italy. He teaches courses on conceptual art, art and ethnography, media theory, art speak, and contemporary art. His writing has been published in Third Text, Art in America, and The Oxford Encyclopedia of Aesthetics.
