Visual Resources Collection

The Visual Resources Collection of the Art & Art History Department is located on the 2nd floor of 11 Talbot Avenue. The Visual Resources Collection is open to the Tufts community and contains over 250,000 35mm slides, 4,000 photographs and 200 videos and DVDs covering all periods and aspects of Art and Architectural History. The Visual Resources Collection also maintains a growing collection of digital images which can be accessed through the Department's image study website, Artifact. There are currently over 9,000 images available in a format suitable for teaching and studying digitally. Tufts University's Tisch Library subscribes to ArtStor, a website with millions of images available for teaching and study. When off campus, ArtStor and Artifact can only be accessed through the Tisch Library website with a Tufts University ID login.

Visual Resources Collection hours:
During Semester:
Monday - Thursday 9AM-5PM, Friday 9AM-4:30PM.

During Summer and Winter Break:  
Monday - Friday 9AM-4:30PM.

Digital Image Information

Artifact:
Artifact has thousands of images organized by Art History course.

Requirements and features:

  • Tufts University ID login required when off campus thru the Tisch Library website

  • Four downloadable image formats, "advanced" is presentation quality jpg

  • Searchable via course lectures or via "site search" using keywords from title, artist name, subject

  • New images being added on a monthly basis by the Visual Resources Collection

ARTstor:
ARTstor has millions of images available for users.

Requirements and features:

  • Requires registration with a Tufts email address

  • Can be used on and off campus through the Tisch Library site

  • Has it's own online and offline image viewing program

  • Allows uploading and storing of personal collection of image files
