The 2008
MARIANNE J.H. WITHERBY
FELLOWSHIP
FOR  SUMMER EXCAVATION


Two fellowships in the amount of $1000 each are available to Tufts undergraduates majoring in Archaeology (including graduating seniors), for participation on summer excavations anywhere in the world except Israel.  

Undergraduate majors who wish to apply for this fellowship
should submit an application no later than April 1, 2008 to  David Proctor in the Classics Department (Eaton Hall 321) or via email to david.proctor@tufts.edu.

The application should include the following:
    1) A cover letter describing the excavation project, the costs
associated with it, and an explanation of how the dig will contribute to your academic and/or research interests,
    2) A letter from the excavation director indicating that the
applicant has been accepted to the project,
    3) A letter of reference from a Tufts professor or instructor
addressing the applicant's academic performance and motivation for study.  Both reference letters should be mailed (or E-mailed) directly to the address above.

All successful applicants will be required to submit a summary presentation of their work following completion of the excavation program. This report will submitted to the Department of Classics no later than Sept. 1 of the grant year and thereafter presented to the Witherby Foundation.

Applicants will be notified of the decision regarding recipients of the award as early as possible.
