What services does ARC provide to students with special
needs?
Depending on the nature of the disability, a
student may be entitled to the following support
services:
- Books on tape
- Extended time
- Note takers
- Peer tutoring
- Readers
- Academic counseling and support
- Assistance in developing good study skills
We look forward to supporting students with special
needs so that they may achieve their academic potential.
How do I get services?
Students are required to submit
current documentation (not more than 3-5 years old)
administered by a qualified professional, providing
clear and specific evidence that a disability exists.
Documentation should be sent to our Program Director
of Disability Services, Sandra Baer. After the
documentation has been reviewed and
approved, students need to meet with the Program Director to
discuss their needs and the appropriate level of
accommodation.
What type of documentation is required?
In most cases, a
neurological or psycho-educational assessment is
required to evaluate students with learning
disabilities. These batteries should include aptitude
and achievement tests. Students with ADD/ADHD requesting
accommodations are required to present documentation
which includes behavior-rating scales and/or checklists
that collect input from parents, teacher, and student
across multiple settings. A letter from a qualified
professional indicating a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD must
include these instruments to support the diagnosis.
