International Philanthropy

Each semester the sisters of Delta Chapter participate in several philanthropies to benefit both local and campus causes and the AOII Foundation. All the money we raise for the AOII Foundation is donated to our international philanthropy, Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis and related diseases. The money AOII sisters raise supports numerous research grants that help fund dozens of arthritis related projects.

The support of AOII sisterhood doesn't end with graduation. The Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation provides scholarships, educational and leadership grants, arthritis grants, and aid to sisters in dire need. This support is a reflection of the love and sisterhood of AOII.

For example, the AOII Foundation's Ruby Fund is currently helping AOII sisters affected by Hurricane Katrina by providing funds to rebuild sisters' homes or to pay medical bills. As an AOII, there is always someone there to lend a caring hand.

Delta Chapter's Past Events:
Every semester we take part in a multitude of philanthropy events that will benefit the AOII Foundation and other charitable causes.

Italian Night: Every fall semester, the Delta chapter house hosts an Italian dinner for everyone else on campus. Both Greeks and non-Greeks attend this fun and well-known event, and the money Delta raises goes to the AOII Foundation.

Arthritis Walk: This walk will involve several sisters, and the proceeds will benefit our international philanthropy.

Trick-or-Treat for Cans: Every year on Halloween, AOII goes "trick-or-treating" for canned foods in the Medford and Somerville neighborhoods surrounding the university. We team up with a fraternity, and we all enjoy going out together. All of the canned goods are donated to a local food pantry.

F.A.I.T.H.: A fairly recent AOII educational program, Fostering Awareness In Teaching Hope, was launched in 2003 for all AOII collegiate and alumnae members. F.A.I.T.H. addresses issues surrounding depression and suicide, highlights statistics, warning signs and, most importantly, resources for help.

Strike Out Arthritis: Our signature national philanthropy event! Activities differ from year to year, but it always involves rasing money for a great cause and having some fun too!

AOII sponsors a Tufts Kids' Day booth every year. Kids' Day is sponsored and organized by the Tufts Leonard Carmichael Society, the community service student organization. On this day, children in grades kindergarten through fourth are invited to spend the day on the Tufts campus enjoying food, amusement rides, educational demonstrations, and most importantly, FUN!

AOII sisters also volunteer at Read by the River in Medford, an event held to increase juvenile literacy. For the past four years, we have created a "life-size" reading board game for the kids to play, with prizes at the end. It's always a big hit!!
