Urban Borderlands was designed
by Tufts professor Deborah Pacini-Hernandez three years ago to
facilitate a community based research project to document the
oral history of the Latino Community. This research originally
began in Cambridge and has now shifted to include a focus on Somerville,
Massachusetts. The class offers students the opportunity to conduct
their own fieldwork in the surrounding communities that might
not otherwise be explored. The open-ended nature of the research
project allows each student to focus on his or her own interest
areas in order to make the semester-long project really valuable
for them as individuals. Most of our research was conducted with
the participation of community members of the Mystic View Housing
Developments.
