Personal Statement

"I'm interested in how communities identify and solve health problems. "Communities" in this context refers to geographically-based entities as well as communities created through shared interests or experiences or through commonalities based on race or ethnicity. Because my academic background is in public policy, I have a particular interest in how public policy intiatives help or hinder the health-related efforts of communities. Most of my own research is on drug issues, especially smoking."
