Welcome to The AFRICANA CENTER at TUFTS Gerald R. Gill ABOUT THE AFRICANA CENTER Additionally the Center works to implement programs designated to encourage and support the intellectual and individual growth and awareness of all Tufts Undergraduates. The Center sponsors lectures, workshops, concerts and films, as well as a range of additional activities and programming that reflect and celebrate the intellectual and cultural tradition of Black people in the diaspora. The Africana Center is Located at 8 Professors Row on the 1st Floor. The second and third floors of the building serve as a living and learning space (Capen House) for fourteen undergraduates who reside in the house during the academic year. These students are selected each year to live in the dorm and work as a community to compete individual and group projects which celebrate the rich cultural heritage of people of African descent. The Africana Center provides the Tufts community with a number of resources that encourage students to have a successful Tufts experience. The Director and members of the staff provide valuable information, advice and services to Black Students as well as to the entire Tufts community. The Center recognizes the realities of the needs and concerns of the students of color on predominately white campuses and works to ensure that students have access to all necessary resources. The Director advises the administrative and academic offices of the university on such issues and advocates proactively students. |
