A Forum Organized by Tisch College - Wednesday,Friday, November 6th. 12:30-2:30pm in Paige Hall
2009 marks both the centennial of the birth of Chicago community organizer Saul Alinsky and the inauguration of
another Chicago community organizer as President of the United States. Today, community organizing comes in many forms
that are sometimes in conflict with each other and can provoke criticism by outsiders.
This forum will discuss the future of community organizing and identify ways today's young people can participate.
Edddy Zheng Lecture Friday, November 6th. 6:30-7:30pm at the East Meets West Bookstore, 934 Mass Ave, Cambridge
Join Eddy Zheng as he shares his words and vibes with the Boston Progress community about his
inspiring story. Eddy Zheng is a community organizer and writer in the Bay Area, who spent over 20
years as an inmate in California and an immigration detainee facing deportation. He was released from
immigrant detention in 2007, but still faces deportation.
Student Faculty Dinner, Thursday, November 5th 6:00 - 9:00pm, Chase Center at Carmichael Hall
The Student Faculty dinner is an opportunity for Asian American faculty and students to meet.
Faculty and students will have the chance to chat and share experiences over a catered dinner.This
opportunity is especially beneficial to students since not only will they have an opportunity to meet
the faculty and network, but it is also an excellent place to ask questions regarding classes in the
spring.

China's Stolen Children Screening, Thursday, November 12th, 9:15-11pm, Sophia Gordon Multipurpose Room
Tufts China Care (TCC) and Chinese Students Association (CSA) present: "China's Stolen Children",
a 2008 HBO documentary about the effects of China's one-child policy, one of which is the stolen-children

Children of Invention Film Screening, Thursday November 12th 8:30 pm Pearson 106
Two young Asian American children living outside Boston are left to fend for themselves when their mother
gets embroiled in a pyramid scheme and disappears. Directed by Tze Chun. Cookies and apple cider will be provided.
Voices Concert, Thursday November 19th 9:00 pm in Hotung Cafe
The annual VOICES concert is bringing ALFA, a Filipino American singer, songwriter and musician from New Jersey. Two
Tufts student bands, "The Cellar Doors" and "Belle and the Beat," will also be performing. Come out to meet these talented Asian
American artists and see them rockin'. Alfa will also be selling merchandise. Co-sponsored by Filipino Cultural Society

Opportunities
Spectrum Call for Submissions! - The Asian American Alliance at Tufts is calling for submissions to its quarterly newsletter
Spectrum. Articles can be on political, social or economic issues related to the Asian American community, Asian American identity and
culture, event recaps, recent news or anything else related to Asian America. Articles should be 800-1000 words in length and submitted
to Allistair Mallillin or Angela Lam. Please send
in contributions no later than November 20th for our second issue. We look forward to hearing from you!
Asian Student Union Co-facilitator with Jenni Basch - A great way to get involved with the Asian American community and Asian American
Center. This is a great leadership opportunity, and we are open to have lowerclassmen as candidates, especially if they would like to continue with
the position next year. Please get back to me as soon as possible, because we have lots of work to do for the month and I would love to have some
help! I would like to hold an election by the end of this week.Requirements:
- Availability, this job is a big time commitment, so whoever is running should be able to spend a good amount of time every week with planning
- Interest in event planning for the community
- Well- organized
- Open to all opinions, and a good facilitator of discussion
- Knowledgeable about the Asian American community, and issues that affect the community at Tufts
- Interested in working with all the Asian/Asian American groups and clubs to form a strong community identity at Tufts
