About Africana Studies
The Africana Studies Program at Tufts University is committed to the analytical study of the historical, cultural, artistic, social, economic, and political lives of peoples of Africa and the African diaspora. Our goal is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of African, Afro-Caribbean, and African-American experiences, perspectives, methodologies, theories, and practices across the globe. Emphasizing black creative agency, the program rigorously engages the deep history of African societies and cultures, slavery and colonialism, race and institutionalized racism, identity and the expressive arts, resistance and the black radical traditions.
